*TALENT:
If speaking strictly from a vocal perspective, When I think of what defines natural talent, I would close my eyes and forget what they look like and just listen to the voice.
NIA: She's a natural talented singer. Her range is not the best but it is soothing enough that it gets the job done. In a song like 'Tounen" it is totally all about her. What gives her an extra pizzaz is the fact that she sings passionately. The emotion she sings with can be felt through her voice.
Score: 7/10
Georgy:: Georgy is a talented singer with a nice but not overwhelming voice. Her voice is well suited for Kompa. She differes from Nia in that aspect in that Nia can probably flow between Kompa and R&B.
But since this post is about HMI ladies who sing Kompa, Georgy's talent as a Kompa singer is undeniable. She proved it in one of her best hits with Zin "Haiti". Her talent in simply undeniable on that track.
One major drawback to Georgy is that it seems as if Alex has been the only one who've been able to squeeze the talent out of her. Her Vocal performances as a member of Phantoms and Hangout have not been great.
Score: 7/10
Mysty Jean: Her vocal ability is average to say the least. It is neither explosive nor mesmerizing but it's recognizable. She reminds me of a Janet Jackson or a Ciara. None of these ladies have overpowering voices such as Mariah carey or Whitney Houston, but once you hear their voices on a song, it's recognizable and unique. Misty falls into that category, She is not the best talent, yet you cannot deny that she can sing.
Score 6/10
Cleo: Not much to say here. She is not a vocalist and does not have a natural talent. She's like this kid who has no natural skills or talent to play soccer and yet wakes up at the break of dawn to practice and does enough that you can't help but give him a chance for trying.
Cleo tries.
Score 4/10
Summary: By adding additional factors other than vocal ability such as the talent to entertain, to dance, and be an overall artist, Mysty beats Georgy by a nose. Mysty is a tripple threat, She can dance, sing, entertain. and they all seem to come to her naturally. She is what Georgy used to be back in the days so she wins by virtue of being younger and having more potential. Nia, while she has strong vocal abilities, other criteria such entertaining and dancing does not come naturally to her. It's something she's had to practice to get better at . Again Cleo remains the little engine tha could: Not the best singer, dancer or entertainer, but she tries.
Winner: Mysty Jean.
*POPULARITY:
Georgy: Without a doubt she is the most popular. Whether we like it or not Georgy is a pioneer as female Kompa singer. Prior to her, most ladies were solo artist who carried a conservative look. Georgy made it cool fo guys to go to Zin and stand at the front just to watch her wine and shake her legs. Most haitians know who Georgy is. Now is to whether she is liked or disliked, she's one of those controvertial stars where you either love her or hate her. Which ever side you fall on, what matters is you know of her.
Score: 9/10
Nia: Playing with Zin has definitely been a big boost is making her very popular. I say that because when she first started with Zin, she was very shy and low key. Other then her natural beauty, some could have missed her musical presence. But in performing with Zin consistently and gaining new wave of fans, she's taking more of a lead role and now is practically one of the better known kompa artist, male or female.
Score: 7/10
Misty Jean: As talented as Misty is, she is not a household name. The avid music listener is probably aware of her, but the average haitian will not know of her, Which is a shame because she's very highly marketable.
The reason for this maybe because her handlers are more focused on the Antilles market than the HMI.
Score: 3/10
Cleo: Cleo may be known more for the drama in her life than for her music and her career as a singer. The same can be said to a certain extent about Georgy, but Georgy has already left her mark. So Cleo's popularity is a toss up because I don't think too many people outside of Miami know much of her. And Performing in Georgy's shadow does not help either.
Score: 4/10
Summary: Georgy wins here hands down, but Nia is fast catching up and if her solo is a Da bomb, Georgy could have some serious competition. Misty has a lot of potential but since the marketing is geared in another direction, her popularity will not improve drastically. And as for Cleo, she's as popular as she will get.
*LOOKS:
Nia: She is beautiful. It is very clear to see. Her voice also goes nicely with her looks. She is not the Drop dead georgous that some make her out to be but since we are so lacking in female singers, her looks are definitely an asset in her arsenal.
Score: 7/10
Misty: At first look, Nia might seem to be the prettier one, but Misty overtakes her with the sex appeal factor. Misty oozes with sexuality. Her striking eyes, her sexy bod, the way she moves all add up to make her a unique beauty. From watching her video she seems very comfortable with her body and has this seductive vibe to her.
Score 9/10 (Sorry only Halle Berry can get a 10 from me).
Georgy: Obviously her best years are certainly behind her. I don't want to say lose the weight because other than health factors, if someone is comfortable in their own skin, that's all that matters. But she still has sex appeal and has this swagger and confidence about her that can make some men think that they could learn something from her. I doubt that men are still lining up at the front of the stage to see her legs shake but she gets points to loving and being confident in her body.
Score 6/10.
Cleo: I don't want it to seem like I'm down on Cleo but I don't find her attractive. She is an average looking girl who's confindent in herself. She's sexy but nothing special to go crazy for.
Score: 5/10
NEWSMAKER:
Cleo: She managed to to be the story of the board for a period with her "who's my baby daddy? soap opera. Then there was her whole beef with Georgy. Unfortunately, none of these stories had anything to with music itself. So while she has the ability to make news, I don't see how it helps her career and it always centers around some negativity.
But Since Good news, Bad news = still news.
Score: 5/10
Nia: Out of all the other ladies, she is in the news more often. Some because of Her involvement with Zin, others because of her fan admirers, a rumored romance with a star from a major band, Working with best producers. A positive for Nia is that most of her news is usually good. She seems to have the respect of her fans, the media and other musuicians.
Score: 9/10
Georgy: Always on the news, seems to always be on the hot seat in whatever band that she performs in for breaking rules and procedures. The negative is that she pops up on the news more when things in bad. But she is a controversial character so anything she does is watched with a close eyes.
Score 8/10.
Misty: Misty has lot of ground to make up to be a newsmaker in the HMI. Other than her rumored involvement with Top Adlerman, you rarely hear her in the news other than when album is coming out or a new video is being released.
Score 4/10.
When you add it all up...WHO IS REALLY AHEAD as the LEAD HMI FEMALE COMPAS ARTIST?
While Nia is the one that most would say should be the lead female Compas artist and I would probable agree with that assertion but when I read the question the way it is asked: Who is really ahead?
Then I pick Misty with a slight edge over Nia. Nia has been with Zin for how long, I don't even remember. A solo has been in works for over 2 years now and still nada. Georgy has been in the HMI for almost 2 decades now and 0 records. Cleo, same thing. While I do not believe that a solo record is per se a requirement but Cleo, Georgy, Nia are guaranteed 1 songs and if lucky 2 on their receptive bands' album. Other than that they are nothing but backup singers.
Misty on the other hand, has a body other work that now spans 2 records that she can point to as a singer. That's more songs than all 3 of these ladies combined. So Misty may not be the most popular or the most talented singer but somehow some people believed in her talent enough that they've invested $$$ to put 2 records of her as a solo artist.
Now that's being ahead.
(sorry for the long analysis. I slept well today)
Much love
Raymi.
