Sadly, this is most likely not an isolated incident. I don't know the statistics for child sex abuse at the top of my head, but they are pretty grim. Parents really have to watch with whom they let their kids spend time. Too many people have been abused and continue the cycle. Some people for whatever reason develop a sick predilection for children. Unfortunately, your own spouse or a relative may be the abuser.
Oprah has had quite a few shows on child molesters and rapists. She's made it her life mission to aid in the capture of these abusers. Many people have shared their experiences on her message board and it is soooo sad and to read how these people's lives were/are destroyed or almost destroyed because of an adult's inappropriate actions.
BTW, Oprah actually did a show this week on the child rape epidemic in South Africa. Here is a statistic from her site. "Each and every day in South Africa, at least 50 children are victims of rape. (South African Press Association, June 2005)" Here's another one that's pretty startling. "A young girl born in South Africa has a greater chance of being raped than of learning how to read. (BBC News, April 2002)" I'm so sickened to hear/read about this type of thing.
Kunta, It's good to read that your neighbor is turning her life around. Hopefully she'll stay on this positive path.
Hopefully the perpetrator will be caught. Child molesters usually keep molesting. _________________
