Here is an interview we did with FOS BARON FESTIVAL spokesperson REGINALD ROSEME also known as RESHKA. He talks about all the controversy that has been brewing around his festival, and he also talks about T-VICE, CARIMI, and DJAKOUT. Check it out.

1) Reginald, how did FOS BARON get to all this where you ended up losing TVICE, CARIMI, DJAKOUT; bands that have been major players at your festival for years?
RESHKA: Well Pat, it all started in March of this year, when we notified these bands of our yearly festival at the park for 2010. We were told by the manager of T-vice and Carimi that they signed a contract with another group of promoters which is preventing them from performing for us on Sunday Sept 5th 2010. After a lengthy negotiation process with T-Vice, they agreed to perform and announced it publicly on KM after reaching new agreement. A week later after a New York tour Jessie sent me a text stating that T-Vice will no longer be able to perform based of the way things are turning. The next day she made it formal via email.
As far as Carimi is concerned we were not under the impression that they wouldn’t perform until recently and they were subject to the same type of intimidation as T-Vice. We came to the conclusion of sabotage in progress because the so call KARIBANA CONCERT preventing the bands from performing anywhere else Labor Day Weekend is not even programmed at the Nassau Coliseum. This can be verified by calling ticket master of go on the Coliseum website. If tickets for an event at the Coliseum, is not available at ticket master 60 or 30 days prior to the event, something went really wrong not to say A A voye. And the bands know it.
Djakout Mizik or Djakout # 0 or whatever they may become is not even worth speaking of right about now; therefore I’ll pass on them.
2) Are you worried that these departures will have an effect on the festival's popularity? It is a huge gamble.
RESHKA: Honestly, it might have an impact in the Haitian community, since these bands are leaders of our industry in terms of popularity; however the situation also presented us the opportunity to offer the fans something different and fresh from the other festivals in the HMI. It’s really the fans’ call.
You may also look at it as gamble Pat, but I do know for fact once a Soca or Reggae hit by Alison Hinds, Machel Montano, and Rupee is played at any Haitian communion, wedding, Bal intermission etc… tout moun sou SOCA. And those artists/bands guarantee a spectacular show.
3) Do you feel betrayed by those 3 groups in question, or are you resigned that "IT'S BUSINESS"; and is the bridge between you guys and those 3 bands forever burned?
RESHKA: Well pat, I do feel a little disappointed in these bands. After more then a decade of doing business with them, this is not the type of treatment we expected from them. As I stated before, their business move could have been justified if they alerted us prior to accepting a new deal followed by returning our deposit to secure the date. While they chose to cancel on us, they still held on to our deposit.
Our goal as promoters is to satisfy all music lovers in our community; therefore saying the bridge is forever burned by these bands wouldn’t be logical. We will continue to work toward the advancement of this industry as long as those bands and artists are willing to help us push our culture and nation in a positive way.
4) Do you now feel it was a mistake to CANCEL last year's festivities; because you basically allowed the bands to slip through your hands?
RESHKA: I don’t think it was a mistake when we canceled last year. We didn’t want to change the date/day of the festival when the general public is accustomed to the festival being on Sunday rather then Saturday which we were offered at the park. The short time notice of the day/date change we were given, might have caused us to fail last year. Beside some of the bands were not even available for the Saturday. They were clearly notified of our intention to continue with this year’s festivities; therefore it’s their choice if they are not there.
5) ANY final words?
RESHKA: Although we encountered many obstacles this year with some of the bands we started this festival with, I would like to reassure the fans that we are working extremely hard to deliver one of the best festivals this year. It is really sad to see some of us Haitians can not retire the CRAZE BRIZE mentally, especially after what transpired in our beloved country earlier this year on January 12th 2010. We really appreciate your support for the past seven years and we are committed to provide quality events for the Haitian community. We will also have a school supply drive this year for the needy children of our country in need of materials for the upcoming school year, please bring some school supplies. SUPLIES ONLY NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED. _________________ KOMPAMAGAZINE CONTACT INFO
