My first time....LOL

Now get your minds out of the gutter people...I'm talking about my first Haiti carnival experience...

Day 1 Sat-2/2/08

Just landed from the airport..every one and their mother are trying to accost you so they can carry your bag...geez make sure you have your US $$$ ready people, then went to a friends house and got some breakfast...I think its called aranselles avec banane...I never really got Haitian breakfasts..they're litlerally meals...either way had some of that with some jus citron...ummmm...natural juices are so good...then I went to check into my hotel..took in the sights of the city and as much as there is poverty there is beauty as well....ok checked in and then my friends and I decided to take a tour of Champs de Mars...yeah right talk about culture shock...everyone is out in the streets, the stands were being built and all these vendors were outside...and people driving ..I thought NYC driving was bad but gosh..in Haiti they'll literally run you over I quickly went back to the hotel, relaxed and tried going back out later that night. Much better, now the stands we're really popping...dj's were battling each other and music was blasting...plenty of people were in the streets this time and dancing and drunk...I was slightly inebriated but aware enough of my surroundings I got to be on a stand qui te devan Rex la...I think it was called the Marassa stand...not too far away from NY/NY and it was so much fun. I saw Kino in the crowd Roro and another dude from Djakout by the Voila and Digicel stands...those stands were so hot when they were lit up. Digicel all red and Voila with their green and that white V...it was hot. The stands to me that night that were really getting the people pumped were Digicel, Sogenor and my stand of course..lol...However behind those stands was a cess pool of filth...ewwww...there was a fountain I think and the water was green and people were sitting in it and it stunk...and there were some vendors cooking back there as well and I was thinking to myself I will not be eating anything from back there because oh my gosh...germs...anyway that was my day 1...kinda went to bed early cuz jetlag was bit*h and had to pick up another friend at the airport in the am so I was done at about 1am that night.

Day 2- 2/3/08

1st day of Carnival...had to go to the airport to pick up my other friend. my uncle came to get me and it was nice seeing him and of course he has a drink in the car already...se moun pa'm li ye nette. I asked what it was and of course he said se sa ou ti bagay, ou met goute'l...wound up being some concoction of citron, rhum barbancourt, and a little coke...it wasn't too bad actually. Got to the airport and of course we got bombarded again..picked up my friend then headed back to our hotel. Got some rest, ate some food and got ready for carnival...but wait...IT"S SUPERBOWL SUNDAY and their not showing the game in my hotel ...Freak, what am I to do?!? Thank God for the internet!!!!! I stayed on Yahoo...watched the score and kept refreshing the screen every 15 seconds...Boston was up 10-14 and then the miracle happened...NY up 17-14 and game over...NY GIANTS have WON THE SUPERBOWL!!!!...you want to see someone go crazy!!!!!!! I was besides myself and my poor friends were clueless. I was the only girl there jumping up and down and screaming, running around the hotel room...took off the carnival shirt they gave me and put on my Giants shirt and had a drink or two or three I had to get to people to share in my excitement so of course I started to talk to some random people and asking them if they were into football and then I met a cutie from Connecticut with his neice and they helped share in my glee I really started rallying some people At that point I had already left my friends in the hotel room and I'm watching the floats go by...1st was Krezi and they were so fired up..tried looking for Funky but couldn't see her...saw the gorilla on top of Krezi's truck and I thought nice touch. and then who do I see but an old Miami ex on the char too...he waves hello and says he'll be back. Kept looking at the stands and the crowd and se pa ti baton mwen we la polis ap bay moun in the streets...and guys there were so many people on the street I was thinking to myself there is no way I'm going down there..yeah right some other floats passed, RAM was off the chain and I was like who the heck is this??? then here comes Carimi and then there's my old boy again and he came and got me and I decided I have to go in front of the Boston United stand pou'm al fe ou ti djole...these boys had the nerve to have a Patriots sign up ...i had to go share the love right.. So Carimi passes my stand and my boy and I decide to leave after the mass of people subsided doing the azibidow and we get somewhat close to Boston United and I keep trying to turn around to see if I can catch a couple of KM members with my Giants shirt on..I think I saw a couple but I couldn't make them out. I actually said hello to one but I wasn't sure if it was him...but either way my attempt to farouche was failing miserably and people started to come along and we had to go to another stand...I think at about that point I lost my camera because by the time I got to the next stand...my camera was gone but thank God I still had my wristlet...but my sneakers were done....labou...ewwww and it stunk ...I just wanted to go home and take a shower..old boy and I did some talking and I left and went back to the stand with my girls..seriously To my dismay, Kreyol La, T-vice and Mass Compas I believed passed but with no music because they were told to stop..that sucked but overall a good 1st day of carnival.

ok day 2-2/4/2008

Day 2 is here and I'm amped...I just experienced day 1 and it was awesome so I knew day 2 and day three was going ot be off the chain. I can barely go to sleep and I was the 1st one up out of all my friends and they think I'm on crack cuz I'm ready to go I'm still on my GIANTS winning the superbowl trip so ou konen se trip map trip toujou. Had some breakfast, hung out at the pool with the homies, made some new friends at the hotel and got some rest. Carnival usually begins at about 10pm for me so we ate didn't too much drinking this night cuz I was spent from the night before and I was determined to see my bands pass thru and experience carnival a little less inebriated. Family and friends from home and Haiti have slowly found out that I'm in town and promise to stop thru...yeah right if they can find me..lol Picked up my carnival shirt and of course cut it up to make it look cute and took my place on my stand so I can get a good view..now I really get a good look at the foule and I'm very convinced now that I will never do that to myself...moun sou moun and the scents that are emanating up to the stand isn't too appeasing. But I finally get to see my bands. Krezi was still killing it but that RAM is on fiyyyah. Carimi is killing it Azibidow styleee, Kreyol La passed thru but I wasn't so impressed, and then Micky and of course he's going crazy and then here comes T-Vice My boys were doing their thing...Olivier and Roberto was so animated and amped et se voup se voup..toubiyon....annnmmmmweeeyyyy!!!!! That's all I really wanted to see actually but I also wanted to see kisa Djakout ten gen pou nou too but domaj they again had to shut it down and just kept it moving wihout any music but they did have a considerable following. Carnival is over for day 2...say bye to my new friends on the stand, got a tcha tcha from someone and called it a night...my voice was so gone at this point. Carnival day 2 is done and I'm happy...I got to see Vice la and they killed it but that RAM is still stuck in my head
