I am going to try something new every week. I will try to expose some albums and bands my generation probably never heard of. The musicians in HMI are too busy dying with the HMI secrets in their back pocket. It is the job of my generation to force them to spit the beans and educate us about where our music came from. I will start a new BLOG called KUNTA’s ALBUM SPOTLIGHT. Here is the first ALBUM SPOTLIGHT. I welcome members and musicians to add inputs on the albums, bands, and musicians on the SPOTLIGHT. It will help educate all of us. I am learning while doing these kind of post too. DON'T TELL ME I WAS NOT BORN YET, WHY NOT TEACH.
GUY DUROSIER et L’ORIGINAL BOSSA COMBO
The legendary Guy Durosier (saxophone) teamed up with L’Original Bossa Combo in 1971 to produced Bossa’s second released. This album is a pure work of art. This album shows why “Mimi Jazz Combo” bands were bands of the youth. This was an era were the youths were distancing themselves away from the orchestras style of music of Haiti. The American influence of rock and Pop was heavy in Haiti. Many of the Mini-Jazz were playing more than just compass. Jut like Bossa Combo, they were playing a Haitian style of rock and pop music. This album shows how versatile these old bands were. In an album, you would here Compas, Haitian Meringue, and Fusion of Haitian and American rock. This album was ahead of its time. If you are into Jazz, this is album to have. Album recorded at Cabane Choucoune, Petion-ville, June 1971. One thing about Mini Jazz bands recordings…what you hear is what you hear live, because the recordings were made live. Here is the line up and cover of the album. I will put three of my favorite tracks from the album. I changed the quality (stereo to mono) to prevent possible piracy/illegal reprint for sale.
Track 1: Dezire
This track is awesome. Guy Durosier on solo Alto sax. This track is a fusion of the American rock (The DOORS organ and guitar style) with Haitian Meringue. The instrumental solos are amongst the best in Haitian music. This is my favorite track on that album.

Track 5: Fanm sa a Sevi ak Maji (Black Magic Woman remix)
This is a remix of Carlos Santana’s Black Magic Woman Bossa Combo style. It is sung in creole. Raymond Cajuste sang lead. What I love the best about the track is Almondo Keslin on the Timbales and Jean Jean Pierre on the drum combo solo at the end of the track. The Timbales is a dead instrument in compass and the drum solo is replaced by heavy Kale Cymbal style. This is the type of percussion my generation would not be able to enjoy.

Track 6:Angela
Angela is sung by Shubert Gehy. It is an American pop style of music sang in French. I picked this track to show my generation how Haitian-Pop used to sound like.

This album is a must have in any collection---Jazz, Compas, and International music.
