Diva Duck,

The magazine is for sell, however the few KM members who registered for the free copies will each be getting one in the mail within two weeks (if not sooner- I am in Haiti so I'm not sure if they were mailed yet).
We wanted to generate buzz and see if people were open to the idea. A free copy is HIP's way of thanking those who encouraged us early on and you will be rewarded for it Wink

For those who didn't register for a free copy, I hope that they still support by ordering from the site.

Thanks,
Sha

Im not trying to be a trou de cul, but since it is posted...i assume that l'opinion de tout le monde matter.

sometimes when you're doing something...knowing that you are the first one to come up with it....

it is good to grab a couple of music magazine, entertainments magazines and look for basic info.

THIS IS A NO NO! ANYONE WHO HAS BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GRAPHIC.....YOU KNOW THERE IS NO WHERE IN HELL WHERE YOU'RE ALLOWED TO WRITE ON PICTURE.

On a magazine cover, go and prove me wrong.....you do no write on pictures.

THEY DO IT IN THE STREETS.....ON FLYERS....

HAITIANS DO IT IN MOVIE POSTERS.

it is an advice.....work harder.....the result will be much better.....

again, you do not write on pictures.....

Philosophenoir,

I am not sure what picture you are referring to, but if it is the cover you are mistaken. It is permissible and actually the norm to write on the cover photo. You can verify this by taking a look at all the covers in your nearest neighborhood newsstand. It is only a complete no-no if it is a special edition (i.e. tribute, anniversary, in memoriam, etc).
I am all for constructive critism, but please make sure you research and are knowledgeable of the subject at hand before criticizing and putting others down.

I did research before starting HIP which is why it took so long. Aside from obtaining a degree from F.I.T. in NYC that taught me the ins and out of the fashion and entertainment industry, I took writing classes and used a research and analysis company to conduct surveys in order to get info on the target demographic before starting the magazine. Furthermore, my time at FuBu, Vibe Magazine, Vibe Vixen and iStyle, not to mention freelance assistant styling gigs for John Moore (google him) who was kind of like my mentor at Vibe adequately prepared me to start HIP Magazine.

Believe me, I am an educated and responsible woman who would not put something out on the market of lesser value than I knew acceptable. I have a storage room in NY full of my "research" magazines as evidence of the constant attention that I have paid to the countless lifestyle magazines in the industry since my college years because I believe in learning from others and perfecting my craft, therefore please do not disrespect my work by throwing out unfounded remarks.

I am open to all criticism, and value the constructive ones that I learn from. However the unfounded and malicious ones do not help those in the Haitian community that want to make a positive impact.

I hope that my reply is satisfactory to your standards and thank you you for your interest in HIP Magazine.

Best,
Shadine

Philo,

Non sèlman kritik ou fè a manke konstriktiv, epi li fo. Mwen menm tou mwen gen yon ide nan Fotografi avèk A grafik. Tankou Ms. Chick di, pa gen okenn erè teknik sou kouvèti magazine nan. Prezantasyon an trè pwofesyonèl.

Ms. Chick, mwen poko gen chans pou fè yon ti koudèy anndan magazine nan, men prezantasyon an bay anpil bòz. Mwen swete-w bòn chans avèk pwojè sila. Li fasil pou rekonèt yon pwofesyonèl lè ou wè youn. Tèt anplas !
