ENTRY #8: SAME-SEX MARRAIGE: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

In Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, the Massachusetts Supreme Court found that the state may not "deny the protections, benefits and obligations conferred by civil marriage to two individuals of the same sex who wish to marry."

Basically the court allows same-sex marriages in the Massachusetts. The decision was shocking because generally courts do not make law that is left to the legislature.

This is a very controversial debate.

I often talk to women and most women I talk are for same-sex marriages.

The argument is that people should have the same BENEFITS that are tied marriage.

I really would like to hear your thoughts on this touchy subject.

Realize this subject is not going to go away.

I am against same sex marriage. I know people will say that gay and lesbians are people too and they were born like this. All i know is that there are men and women and they attracted eachother and get married.
However, the world has change so much that some people will not care if gay and lesbians couple get married or not. People feel strongly about it just because arguing is in their nature. But if the law was passed without a lot of people knowing, it wouldn't be a big debate right now. Gay and lesbians are very much accepted, appreciated in today's society. They are prominent in the fashion industry, and actors win oscar for palying gay.

I'm not against same-sex marriage. If they want to live for the rest of their life as a "normal" couple it's ok.

I just got a problem with them trying to get married, I mean don't use the word "marriage" for people of the same-sex. It doesn't make sense to me.

I'm no homophobe but...same sex marriage does really bother me. AS for sharing benefits and such, go for it because nowadays alot of children are being adopted by same sex couples and such and they do deserve benefits and such dispersed to them in case of an untimely death by either parent. If one of the parents were the bread winner and had an untimely death or something to that extreme their partner wouldn't be able to reap any of the benefits and care for the home and the children in an efficient manner. As for the sanctity of marriage I am against that though. It's just not something that's particularly my cup of tea and its sacreligious as well.
