In any line of work, one generation will always erect to replace another. However, one thing that needs to remain in place is the concept of that established tradition. Consequently, the contribution of that other generation should also trigger a new energy and a new format to renew the existing line of work.

Gerard Daniel alias “Prefe de Brooklyn”is a vivid example of that tradition as a saxophone specialist who came on the scene from his days playing with the Shelberts to Pachas then replace the Loubert Chancy and company of the Shleushleu in the mid-70s and thereafter marked his years with the voluptuous Djet-X in New York City.

Gerald Daniel with the fresh sound that captivated the new wave of Haitians immigrants in the 1970s is among the students who followed the footsteps of the great Webert Sicot. Anyone of us who grew up in that era can be a witness as far as Gerald Daniel's touch on the saxophone is concerned. I can safely say that Gerard Daniel and Jean-Robert Damas of Bossa Combo/Accolade are the two sax players who come close to sound like the incomparable Webert Sicot whereas on the other hand Loubert Chancy has his own distinctive sound which makes unique but still a Webert Sicot student.

If a record is playing on the radio from a distance, it's certain anyone who knows the sound of Gerard Daniel will quickly recognize that clear and fluid saxophone sound. The well-founded and talented Gerard Daniel trademark sound alias "Prefe" de Brooklyn can be detected miles away.
Allow me to say that his best work as a sax man is the Djet-x "Expressions"album and "GM Connection" of Mario Mayala solo project. It's also sad and shameful that this man can't find a constant gig in today's HMI bands like Andre Dejean currently with Nulook. What on earth happens to those talented musicians of the yesteryears?

Gerard Daniel, this is my way of thanking you for your participation in this industry we call HMI. Good luck and be well.
