Celestin, from what I heard most of those countries got beter Network/Communication infrastructure than Haiti which make calls cheaper for them. If everything goes right, that should be changing in the near future.

Education gratuite : Martelly prône la taxation de la diaspora

Grâce au prélèvement d’une taxe spéciale sur les transferts d’argent et les appels téléphoniques internationaux, un demi-million d’enfants iront à l’école, a estimé le Président élu, satisfait de sa tournée américaine et qui prévoit également la création d’un fonds de soutien à Haïti dont les contributeurs et gestionnaires seront les compatriotes vivant à l’étranger


Le Président élu d’Haïti, Michel Martelly, rentré à Port-au-Prince à l’issue d’une tournée d’une semaine aux Etats-Unis, a annoncé mardi la taxation prochaine des transferts d’argent de la diaspora et des appels téléphoniques internationaux en vue de permettre à sa future administration d’assurer l’instruction de 500.000 enfants non scolarisés.

"Mon gouvernement va collecter 8,5 millions de dollars par mois en prélevant 5 centimes par minute sur chaque appel international et 1 dollar sur chaque transfert de la diaspora pour financer la scolarisation de 500.000 enfants d’Haïti", a indiqué Michel Martelly, lors d’une conférence de presse au Karibe Convention Center en présence notamment des musiciens Roger Eugène alias "Choubou" et Yves Joseph dit "Fanfan Ti Bòt" du Tabou Combo
