With some KM members and outsiders extremely critical of POLO's vocal abilities when he used to be with ZIN and BELDJAZ, we asked DOLA Maestro JEAN MAX VALCOURT if he took a huge gamble by having POLO be the featured singer on their very important first single "U MY BABY", from their new cd. We also asked if it was designed to specifically to make a point. This is what he said.
JEAN MAX: "No, not at all. DOLA has 2 vocalists. There are 12 songs on the cd. I sing 2, and POLO and CLINTON both sing 5 songs each. The reason that we decided to go with "U MY BABY" as the first single was because we felt as a team that it would appeal to ALL GENERATIONS OF COMPAS FANS. It is something that not too many people would expect from us as well in terms of the style. IT IS NOT THE MOST COMMERCIAL SONG ON THE CD, but we felt good about the reasons for choosing it as the first single. IT WILL ALSO BE THE FIRST MUSIC VIDEO as the video will be released later this month."
